Evaluation 4 - How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Media technologies have been very important during our media project as the technology helped us to research, plan and create our project to the best that we could with out the media technologies our project would have been impossible to do.

During the research and planning of the project the Internet was a key media technology that we used. The internet allowed to research all part of this project, the website YouTube was the most helpful, this video sharing website allowed us to access poplar music videos and see how those music videos used the conventions of music videos. I also used YouTube to compare and contrast two different music videos such as Nirvana – Teen Sprit and Patti Smith – Teen Sprit this allowed us to see how the same song sung in different genres could have such different conventions. Not only did YouTube allow us to compare and contrast videos it allowed us to analysis videos giving me the freedom to analysis music in videos in detail by using the pause, fast-forward and rewind button. During the research of the project YouTube was a very beneficial media technology. YouTube also became very important after a part of the planning and the whole of the construction of the video had been completed. One we had planned and drew up our story board we filmed the story board and uploaded it to YouTube to show we had planned our video, uploading the video showed us how the video would end up looking once we had filmed it. We also uploaded the final completed version of the video after we had constructed it , uploading it to YouTube we give us more feedback to our video by YouTube users using the comment section on YouTube.
MySpace was another important media technology that you can access on the Internet.  MySpace a social networking site is a way our group decided to promote our media project, we created our own MySpace page to promote our music video by linking video that had been uploaded onto YouTube to the MySpace page we had created we also used MySpace to promote the Band itself, we used conventions that would be considered with the genre of music we had picked for the video and stuck with these conventions.  Before we created our own MySpace Page for the project we researched into other artists MySpace page to see how they created it and designed it, we looked at the conventions that they had used and analysed them.
The most important website that I used throughout this project was Blogger. All of the work that I have done for this project has been put up on Blogger it shows all the planning and research that we had to do to make sure we completed the project to the best of our abilities as well has showing the final product of our project being the music video that we created as well showing the project evaluation. Blogger presents our project neatly and gives more options for us to be creative when showing our projects.

Other social networking sites and email helped the group and actors in the video stay in contact. Using Facebook helped us plan dates in which everyone was free and available to film but keeping in contact with everyone. Email helped the group stay in contact and was an easy way for us to share work if we had split the work load up using email allowed us to send each others work to each other and put the work together as a group.
Further media technology that was used was vital to our product without the use of the filming equipment that we used to film the project, the digital video camera we would of not had a final product. Our group used the video camera to its full advantage, when doing high angles we used the flip screen to make sure that the angle was correct and that we had all actors in the shot. However we did not use the camera just to film our final product, we also used the camera to film our storyboard. Filming the story board gave us an idea of what the video would look like as we put the footage together with the song choice and saw what our planning could look like.

Adobe Premiere Pro was the editing programme that we used to edit our music video to; this programme is one of the most important media technologies that we used. Using Adobe Premiere Pro helped us advance our media skills. Once we had captured the shots we had filmed we could edit them and find the best shots that we had filmed and that fitted in with the music and the narrative of our music video.
A further programme that we used to create our final product was Fireworks, we used fireworks to edit and create our Digi Pack.  Using Fireworks helped our Digi Pack to look as best as we could make it.
The  computers that we worked on were major media technology that we used, and the programmes that were on them, such as Microsoft word, we used Microsoft word to plan our shooting schedules’ and used it to keep log of our group discussions. As we had many different files saved on different programmes it was vital that we kept all work organised whilst on the computer.
Over all I have used a range of different media technologies to research, plan and construct our media project. Some of these media technologies were hard to pick up and learn how to use them correctly such as the digital camera and the editing programme, these media technologies were hard to use at first but with more practise the easier they became to use. The skills I have learnt from media technologies during this project are skills I know I will be using again and I am glad I have learnt them, over all I think that my group all used media technologies to the best to our advantage.
