MySpace analysis

The Kooks MySpace page is formed to promote the bands music their page contains links to other social networking sites such as twitter where fans are able to follow the band and see what they are doing these links are shown as soon as the page for the Kooks MySpace page loads, these links for their website and other social network sites are shown at the top of the page above a black and white picture of the band.
The black and white pictures of the band keeps with the theme of the Kook’s MySpace page the main two colours that are used are black and white. The background being black and the writing being white the kooks may of chose to use these colours as they are simple and stand out. Furthermore the colours could relate to the genre of music the Kooks are, the Kooks are alternative pop. This genre and the colour scheme fits in together as do the songs and the colour scheme as the songs seem to be simple but

say a lot very much like the lay out of their MySpace.

Their MySpace has been designed to promote their image and there new music, the site contains a music player in which the full song or clips of songs from their album and their most famous songs can be played at peoples own leisure for free this is placed on the top right hand side of the page. This is a standard lay out from any MySpace artist page but as the music player is at the top of the page it would catch the viewers eye to listen to the rest of the clips of songs. Having this tool makes promoting of new albums easier and they would be getting more listeners by doing this.
The second main image the Kooks has provided is the picture that the viewer of the MySpace would have to click on to view more pictures, it is also the picture that would been seen if you was to have searched the band on the MySpace music page. Therefore making this picture important, the Kooks again have stuck with a black and white picture fitting in with the theme that they have created so far by using black and white layout and other black and white pictures. The picture is four small pictures to make a whole, keeping in with there genre the pictures look as if they were set in much pervious years, making them look vintage with the car and recording studio these locations and props fit in with their alternative music genre. In all pictures used on the kook's MySpace you can never see the bands faces fully this is because the band have made such a name of themselves people would recognize them already through their music.
The Kooks MySpace page also contains links to Myspace blogs in which fans can keep up to date in what the band have been doing which again can promote what the band are doing like upcoming tours or can give their view on previous tours by writing and posting pictures.

Scrolling down on the Kook's Myspace page they have place the email, add, videos and pic is big, bold, white font this makes these four links to stand out. The band want as many people as they can to add them as this means more promotion, this could be why they chose to put add in capital bold font. The email, pics and video are also in bold font, being able to look at picture and videos again also creates a hype around the band as there are pictures that show the making of some of there music videos and festivals they have played, the link for videos would link fans to their music videos. Having these pictures and videos on their myspace promotes them as a band.
Again Twitter site that the Kooks have has been advertised so that fans can keep in touch with the band just as the email does in bold font and the 'join our mailing list here' in bold, shows that the band are interested in their fans as well as their music.

The video that the Kooks have posted from their recent event shows the backstage of the band before the event and the fans that have attended showing how popular the band are around the world as the event was held in a foreign country. The video ends on the performance the band done this shows how the band would preform live and how many fans are into them by the size of the crowd.
The final part of the Kooks Myspace page is their own youtube channel if click on this link it will take you to their youtube channel in which you can view all their music videos. The image of this link is the same font that is used on their first album cover for fans that already know the band could relate to. The final part of the Kooks MySpace are the comments from fans showing how popular the band are already with the number of supportive comments they have.

Media language used : the text used on the kook's myspace is very little as it is more visual effects used to get the attention of the person viewing the page. The only text used is the text used to link the viewer somewhere else such as 'Pics' would send the viewer to pictures of the band. The other text used is in the band members where it tells the viewer which member of the band does what, this could be interesting for new fans to know.

Institution : The institution that The Kooks are with are a major record institution that is virgin records, this institution is world know and is a conglomerate institution so the Kook's music would be well marketed and reach as many people as possible.

From analysing the Kook's myspace i feel that when creating our bands myspace we should keep it simple as it looks good, but not as simple as the Kooks as they can keep it very simple as they are a well known band that has been around for a few years. I think that also we should try and make our myspace as fan based as posable with links to the video as that is what the Myspace it for, the fans and to keep them connected to the band.
